NATO air base in Kuçova begins construction

This Thursday, the works for the realization of the project for the construction of the NATO air base in Kuçova have started.
During the ceremony for the start of works on this base, Prime Minister Edi Rama said that the investment will increase the military and political role of the country and will bring economic and social benefits to the area.
According to him, the decision to select this environment by transforming it into a tactical airbase of the alliance in the region, confirms the fact that Albania is an added value to this alliance.
“Thanks to the support we are getting from the US and its defense structures, we are becoming aware that if we invest intelligently and address our path of strengthening and at the same time enhancing the quality of our military forces properly we can be of added value. for NATO with other projects as well. “Today we are seeing the realization of a project that was ridiculed by many people three years ago when it was presented”, Rama.
The investment for the reconstruction of the Kuçova airbase is worth 50 million euros and will be the largest NATO base in the region.

Kuçova Airport will serve as a support base for NATO for air supplies, logistical support, air surveillance as well as for the training and exercise of Alliance forces, but also a national base for the Albanian Air Force.
